Jury Duty

In Arizona's rural counties, Clerks of the Superior Court serve as the Jury Commissioner by providing the Superior Court with a sufficient number of qualified jurors for both civil and criminal trials. If summoned for jury service, you will serve as an officer of the court along with the judges and lawyers. Your service as a juror is important and it is your duty to do this honestly and conscientiously. Jury Duty is a fundamental duty of all United States Citizens.

QUALIFICATIONS OF JUROR

bulletRandom selection from Motor Vehicle Dept. and Voter Registration.
bulletSummons 4 to 8 weeks prior to service.
bulletOn-Call for up to 6 months.
bulletComplete Questionnaire and return within 10 days of receipt.
bulletSummons To Appear if questionnaire is not returned.
bulletEligibility is established  by the Jury Commissioner.

REPORTING/SELECTION OF JURORS

3 to 5 days prior to reporting you will receive a call from a bailiff.

bullet

Attendance is confirmed by staff.

bullet

If selected, you will sit on the jury until the end of trial.

bullet

If not selected, you will be excused and not recalled.

EMPLOYER VERIFICATION

bulletOnce you are excused from service the Clerk's office will provide documentation that you were summoned for your employer.

TERM OF SERVICE

As of April 1, 2003 Yuma County Superior Court will operate on a One Day/One Trial jury system.

bullet

If selected you will be provided with the estimate length of trial.

bullet

Selected jurors will serve for the term of that trial only.

bullet

Those not selected as trial jurors are dismissed by the court and have completed their term of service.

JURY PAYMENT

bullet

Every juror received mileage.

bullet

All rates are set by law.

bullet

Mileage is from home to courthouse.

bullet

Selected jurors receive $12.00 / day served (jury fee and mileage).

bullet

Checks are mailed at the completion of your service.

GRAND JURY

bullet

You will receive an Order To Appear for selection for Grand Jury with a specific date and time to report.

bullet

You must fill out the questionnaire and return it.

bullet

Ineligible applicants will be notified prior to reporting.

bullet

If selected for Grand Jury, you will report every Wednesday or Thursday morning for approximately 4 months.

bullet

Mileage and Days of Service will be paid and mailed at the end of term.
